Founded on August 30, 1974 by Oscar and Rubén Rodríguez, Futura began as a forged flange machining workshop in the Pompeya district of Buenos Aires. Over more than five decades, the company evolved from a family-owned enterprise into an integrated industrial organization with engineering, manufacturing, and construction capabilities serving the energy, oil and gas industries.
1970s
In 1974, Futura Hnos. S.R.L. was established and began operations at Grito de Asencio 300 in the Pompeya district of Buenos Aires. The company specialized in forged flange machining, laying the foundations for an industrial culture focused on quality, reliability, and the development of in-house manufacturing capabilities.
1980s
This decade marked the company’s first major phase of industrial expansion. Futura commissioned a machining facility on Route 4 and its first forging plant in Lomas de Zamora.
By the end of the decade, a new forging facility was added in Villa Albertina, significantly increasing production capacity and strengthening the company’s competitive position.
1990s
At the beginning of the decade, Futura incorporated a 7,000 KGM ERIE hammer and inaugurated the Lacarra Plant, consolidating machining, administration, logistics, and sales operations into a single facility. These investments marked the beginning of a new phase of professionalization and growth.
In 1995, Futura initiated its international expansion, focusing initially on Bolivia and Peru and establishing the foundations of its regional presence.
One year later, Futura achieved ISO 9001 certification, becoming the first company in its sector in Argentina to attain this standard. This milestone reinforced a quality-driven culture that remains one of the organization’s defining characteristics.
Toward the end of the decade, the acquisition of the Gualeguaychú forging facility represented one of the most significant scaling milestones in the company’s history. The incorporation of 16-ton and 25-ton forging hammers, together with a 4,000-ton press, strengthened Futura’s industrial capabilities and positioned it among the leading companies in the sector.
2000s
Beginning in 2004, supported by the recovery of the domestic market and the full operational consolidation of the Gualeguaychú facility, Futura entered a period of sustained growth. During this stage, the company became one of Argentina’s leading forged flange manufacturers and a strategic supplier to the Oil & Gas industry.
In terms of technological modernization, 2008 marked another major step forward with the incorporation of four state-of-the-art CNC machining centers and new induction heating furnaces, enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and responsiveness to increasingly complex projects.
2010s
The early years of the decade were focused on continuous operational improvement through the incorporation of new induction furnaces, expansion and modernization of the welding area, and the adoption of advanced industrial technologies.
As part of its professionalization strategy, Futura established dedicated Marketing and Customer Service departments in 2014, reinforcing its market orientation and customer-centric approach.
A major turning point came in 2018 with the creation of the Special Products Division and the Engineering Department. This new engineering structure provided in-house capabilities for new product development, continuous improvement of existing solutions, and the resolution of complex technical challenges not adequately addressed by the market. It became a key driver of innovation and higher-value solutions for the energy industry. The establishment of the Engineering Department laid the foundation for future proprietary developments such as Ring Lock and OSTAP.
During this same period, Futura developed Ring Lock, an innovative quick opening closure solution distinguished by its high operational safety, ease of maintenance, and reduced intervention times. These characteristics drove its market adoption and established it as a benchmark within its category.
Also in 2018, Futura achieved ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, further strengthening its standards in environmental management, occupational safety, and sustainability.
2020s
The year 2020 represented one of the most challenging periods in Futura’s recent history. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and strict lockdown measures, the company successfully maintained operations without workforce reductions, ensuring production continuity and supplying critical orders to the energy sector, underscoring the organization’s resilience, its workforce’s commitment, and the strategic criticality of its products.
A new technological milestone was achieved in 2022 with the comprehensive retrofit of the Erfurt 4000 press, one of the largest forging presses in South America. That same year, Futura obtained ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1 U-Parts certification, authorizing the certified manufacture of pressure vessel components and further strengthening its technological positioning within the regional energy industry.
In 2023, Futura expanded its business model through the establishment of commercial and technical offices in Puerto Madero, integrating commercial, customer service, and engineering teams to accelerate the development of higher-value solutions.
In March 2025, Futura expanded the scope of its ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1 certification, obtaining authorization to manufacture complete pressure vessels. This achievement extended its certified scope to include equipment such as scraper traps, manifolds, and industrial headers, representing one of the most significant technological milestones in the company’s recent history.
In September 2025, Futura introduced OSTAP, a new generation quick opening closure developed in response to market demands and customer requirements. The design was developed to optimize opening and closing times, improve operational efficiency, and provide a solution aligned with the evolving needs of the energy industry.
During 2025, Futura also incorporated Pig Signallers into its portfolio of pipeline solutions and consolidated its Engineering & Construction business unit, dedicated to the execution of high-complexity industrial projects. This evolution reflects the company’s transformation from a component manufacturer into a comprehensive industrial solutions provider.
Present and Future Vision
Today, more than fifty years after its foundation, Futura has established itself as an Argentine engineering, manufacturing, and industrial construction company recognized for its ability to develop high-complexity solutions for the energy, oil and gas sectors. The combination of industrial expertise, continuous innovation, and adherence to international quality standards remains the cornerstone of its growth and future development.
